The Rare Ould Times, sometimes entitled Dublin in The Rare Ould Times was written by Pete St. John. It is one of my favourite Irish songs and for the first time I find myself singing it in a session we had on 31st July 2012 in Crowley’s Bar, Kenmare, Co. Kerry. The local band of musicians made me feel so welcome and we had a superb evening. Thank you to John Meskell on banjo, Noreen O Shea on fiddle, Michael Murthagh on melodeon and Anne on flute for their accompaniment and to Mari McCloskey-Wilson and Lucie Wentworth for singing the chorus with me…and to Theodora Wentworth for filming this. Lovely pub, good beer and a super atmosphere…what more can anyone ask for!
